New Year’s Resolution: Writing

Hello there! What a lovely day it’s been.

We are already 1/4 of the way through the year already! Have you been working towards your New Year’s Resolutions?

This year one of my resolutions is to become an author after a 5 year writing hiatus. In my experience writing can be fun yet frustrating from many challenges, such as: tone, grammar, characterization, plot, etc. Writing takes a lot of practice!

My goal is to create and publish a few short stories this year so I have been taking this hobby more seriously. A few months ago I finished a free creative writing class through my library which helped me find my writing voice and inspired me to work hard.

In this post I share some pieces I wrote while taking the creative writing class.

A short story I am proud of, and received praise from others in the class, is about a man who realizes that following your passion is most important. It is 2 pages long in a pdf format and is titled, It’s Never Too Late.

Another writing piece I am eager to share with you is a metaphor poem that also received positive feedback from readers. The assignment was to write about an apple and a bus. It hopefully paints the picture of how terrible Mondays can be!

Monday morning is a nuisance

Crowded sardines on a bus

We all wait patiently for the right stop

A toddler sits on her mother’s lap

She stares at me

as I crunch on a ripe green apple

My teeth are soldiers

breaking up food so I won’t be hungry

The bus hits a bump

The apple rolls away like a ball

I stare helplessly at the apple

The toddler smiles cheekily

Mondays are a pain

Is one of your resolutions to write more? Are you well on your way to achieving your goal? Do let me know in the comments!

Until next time,

Lyna Pravy
